Heart and Poem

.

Sound / images

You are listening to the amplified sounds of a human heart.

They are linked to other sounds assembled to suggest the thoughts and feelings of the person in whom the heart resides-- it beats in the chest of a man from Afghanistan who now lives in Australia. His life’s journey, including being lost in a disabled boat in the Indian Ocean and containing other elements of difficulty too disturbing to detail here, resulted in his and his family's eventual freedom and relative safety in Swan Hill VIC.

You are invited to reflect on the interior and exterior human worlds through these small sounds.

This installation, consisting of a two-person listening station and a coffee-table book of images, appeared at the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery in March-April 2015 and at the Blindside Gallery in Melbourne in October 2016.
